South African innovation

The future of the motoring industry lies in the electric and hybrid technologies, this is a hush reality we have to face with the recent global warming issues and the conference that was held in Copen Hagen including the green laws that control the amount of carbon dioxide emissions in car. Its no exception for the South African public too has to pay the extra cash in petrol and buying of new cars for their emissions and global warming threats. This has lead to a Cape Town based company Optimal Energy to team up with South African born automotive designer Keith Helmet to produce South Africa’s first car the JOULE.
The JOULE uses two large cell lithium battery packs which have the same chemistry and technology as the cell phones and laptops, it will take approximately seven hours to charge the battery that will last for 200km’s of driving but considering that it has two batteries you’ll be able to drive for 400km’s.
The car has regenerative ABS braking technology that will allow the batteries to be charged when brakes are applied; independent analysis from Eskom has shown that the South African grid has enough capacity to supply energy to electrical cars. They will be good to charge around 11pm and 6am Gauteng was the first evaluation for the car to be sold and expressed interest in buying the car. Soon after the car is launched in South Africa It will be launched internationally to put the South African automotive industry to the world.
